About us

The Adelaide West End Association advocates to state and local government on behalf of members on issues such as precinct presentation, safety and cleanliness, social inclusion, arts and community funding, planning matters and are an active voice on behalf of our community in shaping the future of our city.

We offer our members a vehicle for promoting their diverse business activities from live music performances, exhibitions, public seminars and consultancy services. We also provide a means of networking and ‘connecting the dots’ within the community and the city as a whole.

The Adelaide West End Association is managed  by a volunteer executive , elected annually from its members and administered by a coordinator employed by the association . The Executive committee meetings are held third wednesday of each month (for approximately 2hrs). Additional meetings and sub-committees are adhoc. To be elegible for the committee, you or your business must be a financial member of the AWEA. Executive members are elected annually at the AGM (usually July or August). If you would like to be an executive member please contact the coordinator.

We were established in the 1980’s as a Traders association and our membership is representative of the diverse range of businesses and institutions that form the West End.

The West End is a unique precinct in Adelaide, historically the centre for colonial commerce  and  post war migration settlement. It is the entertainment precinct in the CBD with historic hotels, the highest concentration of live music and dance club venues in the city and an emerging bar scene reflecting the diversity of entertainment options in the city.

The precinct enjoys in legend the reputation for being the seedier side of town but in reality we are the active and progressive arts and cultural centre of the city. The University of South Australia with The Adelaide College of the Arts and Adelaide TAFE make the West End the epicentre for visual and performing arts, craft, architecture and design education in South Australia. This supported by an equally high concentration of galleries and arts institutions such as the Jam Factory, Australian Experimental Arts Foundation, The Samstag Gallery, Arts SA, The Adelaide Fringe and Feast Festival, Nexus Multicultural Arts centre and many more; as well as providing space for numerous media, architecture, design and arts studios.

We are the West End!
